TRENTON – James W. Stanley, 91, died Oct. 16, 2007, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Bar Harbor, the son of Lionel and Estella (Ham) Stanley. James served as a medical supply clerk in the Pacific during World War II. He worked as a lobster fisherman for many years. James was a great carpenter and boat builder. He worked for Harold MacQuin and helped build the Duck Brook Bridge. James also enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was one of the original six stockholders of Rock Crossing Lodge. He is survived by his son, Gary W. Stanley and wife, Kathy, of Lamoine; his daughter, Gail and her husband, Carroll Leland, of Town Hill; grandchildren, Tyler W. Stanley and Maggie Stanley, both of Portland, Emma Stanley of Lamoine, Christopher T. Le-land, David J. Leland and wife, Missy, all of Trenton, and Mary A. Leland of Town Hill. James was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Alfreda (Strout) Stanley, in 2004; and an infant daughter, Mary Helen. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Leland Cemetery, Trenton.
