ORLANDO, Fla. – Jane H. Sawyer, 86, passed away in the arms of family Dec. 20, 2007, in Orlando, Fla. She was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Belle-ville, N.J., to William J. and Johanna A. (Frey) Horgan. Jane graduated high school in 1939, then received a certificate in secretarial science from Berkley Secretarial School. Miss Horgan worked for Amer-ican Airlines for more than five years, first as a secretary, then in 1943 as a stewardess. Jane loved aviation so much she married Eastern Airlines pilot Haven “Tom” Sawyer Jr., Nov. 22, 1947, and moved to the Boston area. By 1950, Duxbury, Mass., was home, where they raised three sons. Her favorite pastimes were reading, swimming, antiquing and traveling. Retirement sent the couple packing to New Harbor, in 1980. They wintered in the Orlando, Fla., area after 1985. Jane leaves behind in loving memory, sons, Robert, William, and Michael and wife, Suz-anne; a grandson and great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband in 2002. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the chapel of Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. She will be laid to rest, with her husband, at Harrington Cemetery, Pemaquid. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Salvation Army or at www.salvationarmyusa.org.
