SKOWHEGAN – Janet L. Corson, 84, of Cowette Street, Skowhegan, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge in Augusta. She was born March 5, 1921, in Embden, the daughter of Ernest and Mazie (Murphy) Gilman. She graduated from Solon High in 1938 and married Ralph D. Corson in 1942, he passed in Feb. of 1980. Janet looked forward to any time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her love of cooking, both as a hobby and a vocation. She cooked for the Skowhegan school system for many years. Latter in life Janet enjoyed time spent doing crafts and playing cards with friends, and also driving around the countryside with the occasional stop for ice cream. Survivors include a daughter, Dorean Maines of Augusta; a son, Dennis Corson and his wife, Robin, of Kenduskeag; five grandchildren, Christopher Corson of Brewer, Danielle McNally of Millinocket, Patrick Corson of Ellsworth, Michael Maines of Portland, and William Maines of Nantucket, Mass.; five great-grandchildren, Amira, Alexander, Nathan, Abigail, and Joshua. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Avenue, Skowhegan. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Solon. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Assoc. of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330-5615.
