EASTON – Walter E. Clark, 90, died May 1, 2005, at a Pres-que Isle health care facility. He was born May 26, 1914, in Easton, the oldest son of George E. and Vaida (Fuller) Clark. He attended the Easton school in the River-de-chute. As a young man he worked in the woods for the Lincoln Pulp and Paper Company in Glenwood and the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket. Walter also worked for, Frank Ames of Fort Fairfield from 1935 to 1938, Horace & Almond Richards in Fort Fairfield from 1938 to 1943, his father George Clark in Easton from 1943 to 1945 and then Roy Flewelling from 1945 to 1947. He married Patience B. Field, Nov. 2, 1939 and started farming in 1947 when he bought the McDonald Farm on the River-de-chute road in Easton. He bought other farms in 1949 and 1953. As he continued to farm, he also became an agent/broker in 1951 for Bushwick Commission Company in Long Island, N.Y. He shipped potatoes throughout the United States. Walter also baled hay and combined grain for other farmers. Following his retirement in 1982, Walter and Patience spent 20 winters in Brandon, Fla. While in Florida, He played in shuffleboard tournaments and won two special trophies. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Harold at age 2; three sisters, Glenna Clark Dudley, Vera Clark Davenport, and Helen Clark Smith; his step-mother, Annie Tompkins Clark; and half brother, Glenwood Clark. Surviving him is his wife, Patience Field Clark of Easton; daughters, Betty Doty and her husband, Kenneth, of York, Joan Flewelling and her husband, Galen, of Easton, Pauletta Lockhart and her husband, Joseph, of Easton; a son, Harold Clark and his wife, Barbara, of Easton; 10 grandchildren, Wanda (Doty) Morris, Kenneth Doty, Julie (Flewelling) Sotomayer, Brent Flewelling, Nicole (Flewelling) Winslow, Walter Lockhart, Kimberly (Lockhart) Woodworth, Shawn Clark, Ryan Clark, and Tyler Clark; 15 great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Morris) Martin, Brandon Morris, Ian, Drew and Collin Sotomayer, Carson and Kyle Flewelling, Faith and Meredith Winslow, Logan and Seth Lockhart, Tristen, Liam Woodworth, Anna and Keeley Clark; sisters, Alice Clark Kinney of Avoca, N.Y.; and half sisters, Inez Gordon and her husband, Dean, of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and Blanche Whitehouse and her husband, Cecil, of Bangor; a brother-in-law, Jack Field and his wife, Leola; and sisters-in-law, Anna Livingston, June Field and Hope Field; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Gregg Jackson and Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating.
