DELRAY BEACH, Fla. and BANGOR – Janette ‘Jimi’ Grossman, 86, of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Bangor, passed away at home on Feb. 8, 2004, after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Philip Grossman, to whom she was married for 65 years. Jimi was born in Portland, Nov. 6, 1917, and graduated from Portland High School. After moving to Bangor, she met and married her loving husband. They had two children, a daughter, Priscilla Grossman Williams, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Bangor; and a son, Kenneth David Grossman, who died in 1966. She was employed for many years at the Maine State Employment Agency. She was active in local theater groups, was a National Master bridge player and a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah and a life member of Beth Abraham Sisterhood. In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Brian Williams and his fianc‚e, Emily Cain, of Orono, Kenneth David Williams and his wife, Michelle, of Wellington, Fla., Eric Joseph Williams of Highland Park, N.J.; a great-granddaughter, Sydney Alexa Williams of Wellington, Fla.; two sisters, Dena Cutler of Seminole, Fla., formerly of Portland and Mollie Emple, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Bangor; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Viner of Bangor and Eva Sacknoff of Portland, and a brother, Morris Kane of Portland. Funeral services were held in Florida on Wednesday, February 10th. Jimi will return home to be buried in Bangor with her son at 12 noon Friday, February 13th at Beth Israel cemetery.
