ORIENT – Jean Roach Tozier, 74, died Jan. 2, 2006, at her home after a long illness. She was born July 28, 1931, in Houlton, the daughter of John and Frances (Crawford) Roach. Jean was raised in Houlton by her aunt, Margaret (Roach) Adams and Margaret’s husband, Clifford Adams. She graduated from Houlton High School in 1950, and from Colby-Sawyer College in 1952. In 1953, Jean married Ralph Tozier Jr. who also grew up in Houlton and was her high school sweetheart. They had three daughters, Meg, Melissa and Anne. Her husband’s career took Jean and their family all over the United States. They lived in Schenectady, N.Y., Milwaukee, Wis., Cleveland, Ohio, Palos Verdes, Calif., New Orleans, La., (where she worked for the treasurer of Tulane University), Baton Rouge, La., Spokane, Wash., Long Valley, N.J., (where she worked for Morris County) and San Antonio, Texas. From 1991-1996, Jean and Ralph lived in Jakarta, Indonesia, where they enjoyed experiencing new cultures and living the expatriate life. Jean’s cheerful disposition and outgoing nature enabled her to easily make new and lifelong friends in each place she lived. Jean and Ralph retired to the area they both always called home in 1999, buying a home on East Grand Lake in Orient. She coveted her time there and friends and family always felt welcome at their house on the lake, which Jean lovingly decorated with furniture and artwork they acquired in Indonesia. An avid animal lover, she took pleasure in watching her cats and dogs romp in the lake and the woods surrounding their home and the many birds and ducks who frequented the area knew she was always good for a handout. Jean is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ralph; her daughters, Meg McDonald of Garden City, N.Y., Melissa Tozier of San Antonio, Texas, Anne Teleisha of Hempstead, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; her brothers, Jack Roach and Terry Roach; her cousin and “little sister,” Sandra (Adams) Anderson; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Dunn Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned for late spring/early summer to be held at the Orient Cemetery and the Tozier residence at East Grand Lake. Gifts may be made in Jean’s memory to the Houlton Humane Society, care of Dunn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 127, Houlton, ME 04730.
