EASTPORT and ROCKPORT Jennie A. Hoche, 84, died March 9, 2005, at her home in Eastport. She was born April 14, 1920, in Rockport, the daughter of George and Cora (Poland) Turner. She grew up in Rockport graduating from the Rockport High School. She married Herbert Hoche in December 1937. She worked for several years in local fish plants. During World War II, she and her husband lived in Worcester, Mass., where she worked as a waitress. She began working at Knox General Hospital in Rockland in 1970 as a cleanup girl and instrument sterilizer and worked her way up to Emergency Room Tech. She retired from Pennbay Hospital in April of 1982. That same year she moved to Eastport where she bought and restored many old houses. Her hobbies include genealogy, of which she had worked 50 years on her own family’s; sewing, starting when she was six years old, and had made many beautiful clothes throughout the years. She enjoyed tailoring and upholstering. She loved to garden, knit, read, write, and tell stories. She loved animals and was very concerned about the environment. She was very politically minded and worked at the polls during elections in Rockport and was on the election committee for Edmund Muskie twice. She loved Eastport and served on many committees to improve the local area. Many “letters to the editor” were penned at her home concerning local issues. She was predeceased by her husband in 1969. She is survived by a sister, Vera Pendelton of Rockland; three children, George Hoche and his wife, Tammy, of Eastport, Herbert Hoche of Union, Dawn Hoche and long-time companion, Gene Philbrook of St. George; grandchildren, Eric Hoche and his wife, Wanda, Gretchen Kutschinski, Athena and Randy Mank, Aaron Holsipple and companion, Christine, Eugene and Carrie Philbrook, Jennie and Charles Titcomb, Wyatt Philbrook, Clay Philbrook, Johan, Marcus, Stephe, Michael, Edward, Johnathen Hoche, Lisa Mathews; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Emma, Genevieve, Kasie, Jayden, Hannah, Alysa, Sidney, Logan, Emma, Albert and Elizabeth. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Flagg Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating.
