OLD TOWN and HOLDEN Julia E. Carlow, 89, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, March 9, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Stillwater, the daughter of the late Cyrus I. and Mary E. (Meade) Howland. Julia attended and was a graduate of Old Town High School, Class of 1936. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family and friends. Julia enjoyed gardening with her husband, Herbert, and assisted him with operating Carlow’s Vegetable Stand. She enjoyed cooking especially for elderly people and was proud to deliver the food to them. She also enjoyed playing and was competitive in “Scrabble” with the girls from New Hope Hospice. The family would like to send a sincere and special thank you to the staff of New Hope Hospice and The Meadows in Old Town, “Your unconditional love and tender care of our loved one will forever be cherished.” She is survived and will be sadly missed by her son, Herbert Carlow Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hodgdon; daughter, Karen Grover and her husband, Lee III, of Holden; sister Marion Haggett of New Bern, N.C.; granddaughter, Angela Tarbox and her husband, Michael, of Brewer; grandson Lee Grover IV and his wife, Kim, of Bangor; granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Carlow of Portland and special friend, Deanna Wade. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Carlow Sr.; brother, Charles Howland; sister, Bertha (Howland) Luebbers; grandson Michael Carlow. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a Celebration of Life will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Liz Vernon, officiating. Family and friends are invited to share in refreshments and continued fellowship immediately following the service at the North Brewer Eddington United Methodist Church.
