BANGOR – Joanne J. Van Namee, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Fred D. and Lillis T. Jordan. She graduated from Rogers Hall School in Lowell, Mass. and Westbrook Junior College, Westbrook. At the time of her death, she was chairman of the board of Bangor Publishing Company, a position she held for the past 20 years. Among her community interests, she served on the board of directors of the Bangor-Brewer T.B. and Health Association and co-chaired its clinic, the Bangor Children’s Home, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and was its first president, Junior League of Bangor and president from 1960-1962, National Safety Council and served on the executive committee of its Women’s Conference. She was appointed to the Maine Highway Safety Committee, served on its legislative relations committee and was an instructor in its Defensive Driving Course. She was also a member of the Maine Safety Conference and the Commission for the Status of Women for the State of Maine. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn W. Mowers and Frederick C. Emery of Cape Elizabeth; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Elizabeth C. Warren of Bangor; and by grandchildren, Courtney T. and her husband, Thomas Adragna, of Norwalk, Conn., Scott W. and his wife, Jill Farley, of Cadillac, Mich., Jennifer E. Mowers of Cape Elizabeth, George B. Warren of Bangor, Anne L. Warren and fiance, William P. Golding Jr., of Boston, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Brett, Benjamin and Bryan Farley of Cadillac, Mich., Holden and Grace Adragna of Norwalk, Conn.; and by her former husband, Richard K. Warren of Bangor. She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Van Namee of Lighthouse Point, Fla. According to her wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral.
