HANCOCK – Joanne R. Wheeler, 74, died March 15, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Meriden, Conn., the daughter of Clifford E. and Florence (Bickford) Root. Joanne was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Her family was her life as well as Jack her dog. She was a dispatcher for Hancock fire and police departments for 30 years. She was named Citizen of the Year for Hancock in 1983. Joanne was a past member of the East Hampton, Conn. Congregational Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles; sons, Charles R., Thomas P. and wife, Lona; daughters, Laurie W. Davis, Nancy W. Robbins and husband, Keith, all of Hancock; brother, Donald Root; and sister, Sharon R. Kelley, both of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Shannon, Robert and Sean Davis, Michael and Amanda Robbins, Brock and Lucas Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Jewel, Brandon, Destiny and Kole Davis. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and one nephew. Calling hours will be held 4- 6 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18.
