ST. FRANCIS – Joel “Oda” Theriault, 71, died Nov. 29, 2003, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility. He was born June 17, 1932, in Fort Kent, the son of Thomas and Rose (Raymond) Theriault. He was a past member of American Legion Post No. 180 in St. Francis. Joel was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working most of his life as a lumberjack. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary (Ouellette) Theriault of St. Francis; seven children and their spouses, Ricky and his wife, Barbara Theriault, of St. Francis, Joella and her husband, Gene McBreairty of St. John, Terry and his wife, Lisa Theriault, of Fort Kent, Doleen and her husband, Nathan Hill, of Norton, Vt., Bruce and his wife, Joyce Theriault, of St. John, Ivan and his wife, Camilla Theriault, of Fort Kent, and Thomas and his wife, Tina Theriault of St. Francis; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by eight sisters and four brothers; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to both his parents, he was predeceased by one brother. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and 12 noon until time of departure for St. Francis Tuesday at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home in Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Charles Catholic Church in St. Francis with the Rev. Claude Gendreau officiating with full military honors in the church. Spring burial will be held May 14, 2004, in St. Francis Cemetery.
