LIMESTONE – John Gladstone “Pup” Chapman, 72, well known area potato farmer, died un-expectedly, Sept. 17, 2004, at Limestone. He was born Aug. 22, 1932, at Caribou, the son of the late Aubrey and Mildren (Brown) Chapman. John attended Caribou high school, had served two years in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Caribou 152nd Field Artillery National Guard. John was a very dedicated and conscientious farmer for 47 years. Prior to his farming years, he was employed as a federal potato inspector. He was also employed during his farming years at Loring Air Force Base for more than 30 years and also did several construction jobs in which he adopted the love of a bulldozer and loved to clear land. He improved the land greatly. He was always willing to help family, friends and neighbors and never turned his back on a person in need. John was very generous and willing to help a fellow farmer. He was a very hard working man. He will be sadly missed by his many close friends, too many to mention. John was a loving and devoted husband and father to his family and had a wonderful and supportive family. John is survived by his loving wife, Cecile (Michaud) Chapman of 47 years; his four children, Peter Chapman of Limestone, Nelson Chapman and his wife, Stacy, of Caribou, Nancy J. McBreairty and her husband, Alan, of Caribou and Sandra DeMerchant and her husband, Storer, of Caribou; two brothers, Reginald Chapman and Charles Chapman, both of New York; two sisters, Elaine Stone and her husband, Gerald, of Virginia and Carolyn Barnes and her husband, Milton, of Pennsylvania.
