CARIBOU – Joseph R. Albert, 74, died peacefully Sept. 19, 2004, at his Caribou residence, surrounded by his family on after a long illness. He was born in Guerrette, May 4, 1930, the son of Patrick and Leona (Lagasse) Albert. He was brought up on a farm in Stockholm and worked for other farmers until he entered the Armed Services. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion, Perkins-Plourde Post 0136 of Stockholm, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lozier-Ogrady Post 9609 of Fort Kent, past chief ranger of St. Andre, Conn. 1977, COF of Stockholm and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus, Council 1870, Caribou. He attended the Stockholm Schools, Caribou High School, and St. Francis in Biddeford. Upon completion of his Air Force experience, he worked in Hartford, Conn. for a year and later returned back to Maine to attend college. Joseph completed three years at Fort Kent Normal School, transferring to Aroostook State Teachers College and received his B.S. Degree in Science in the year 1960. He completed his Master in Education in School Administration in 1983 at University of Maine, Orono. He taught one year in Limestone, seven years in Stockholm as a teaching principal, and four years at the Caribou Junior High as a science teacher, followed by 18 years as assistant principal and served one year as principal. After 30 years in education, he retired in 1990. He then pursued his second love, the building of many homes in and around the Caribou area, something he had done part time over the years when free from his school duties. Joseph was a member of the church choir from the age of 14, and played the organ for 41 years in various churches. On July 30, 1953, he married his beloved wife, Doris Dufour from St. David. Joseph is survived by his wife, Doris, of Caribou and his seven children and their spouses, Kenneth and his wife, Earlene (Doucette) Albert, of Etna, Patricia and her husband, Gary Canning, of Sunapee, N.H., Roland Albert and friend, Kim Miles, of Presque Isle, Carol and her husband, Paul Lamson, of Gouverneur, N.Y., Jeanine and her husband, Guildo Morneault, of Caribou, Alan and his wife, Amy (Roman) Albert, of Walpole, Mass., Michael and his wife, Lynn (Kinter) Albert, of Oxford, Mich. He is also survived by three sisters, Geneva Roy of East Millinocket, Carmen and her husband Rosaire Roy of Enfield, Conn., and Rachel Cyr of Caribou; 10 grandchildren, Roiya Albert, Renee, Amanda, and Brian Canning, Mark and Kim Lamson, Daniel and Katherine Morneault, Ashley Albert and Joshua Kinter. Joe is also survived by a very special “friend”, Janice Jackson and her family, and by many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Theresa Albert, Patricia Albert and Cecile (Albert) Levesque; two brothers, Robert and Roger Albert; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Roy and Irvin Cyr. Family and Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, and from 9 a.m. until time of funeral on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, by the Rev. David Raymond at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. Interment Services will be held immediately following, at the New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
