DANFORTH – John R. Bartlett Sr., 85, husband of the late Catherine H. “Katy” (Campbell) Bartlett, passed away Oct 17, 2006, at a Houlton hospital. He was born Oct 19, 1920, in Danforth, the son of Emerson and Lydia (Day) Bartlett. John was a graduate of Danforth High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, working at Pearl Harbor repairing ships. He was employed as a woods cook and also as a carpenter for the B & A Railroad. He was an avid hunter and ice-fisherman. A long time member of the Danforth Baptist Church, he served the church as a deacon. He is survived by four children and their families, Sharyn and Robert Garland, Heidi, Robbie, Christopher and Shawn; Kathy and John Vining, Jennifer Prescott and Amanda Prescott; John Jr. and Mary Bartlett, Michael, Matthew, Mark and Mitchell; and Gayle McDonald, Jessica Dorr, Andrew Dorr, Eric Dorr, Jonathan Dorr and Jeremy Dorr; two great-grandchildren, James and Ava; three brothers, Richard, Winston and William Bartlett; three sisters, Faye Stilphen, Barbara Kinney and Martha Dayl Nason; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves a special neighbor, Reta Caron. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Roger, Russell and Eaton; and sisters, Izetta and Helen. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home – Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Danforth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Peter Grenier officiating. Refreshments will be served at the church after the service.
