JOHN W. NEVINS HARLEM, Ga., and BANGOR John W. Nevins, 85, passed away Sept. 23, 2008, at a Georgia hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Lincoln, son of Harry A. and Bernice (Gratton) Nevins. John was a truck driver by trade, delivering fuel to area filling stations. He worked for Sun Oil, Merrill Transport, Webber Energy, and Texaco Inc. John and wife, Ruth, were avid campers and enjoyed the company of friends and family on many of their outings. They loved to dance and played cards most every day both against each other and/or with anyone up to the challenge. After wintering several years in Florida, they decided to make it their home. Approximately three years ago, due to declining health, they opted to move to Georgia to be closer to their daughter. The family wishes to thank his daughter, Loreen and her husband, Steve and sons, Andrew and Zachary, for the love, care and devotion to both “Gramps” and “Nannie” in their final days. John was proud to have served his country in World War II. He was a member of Brewer Eagles Club and a past member of Bangor VFW. He is survived by daughters, Loreen and husband, Steve Reynolds, of Georgia, and Lynn and husband, Mike Pritchard, of Florida; stepdaughters, Janice Campbell of Brewer, and Brenda and husband, James Rowe, of Florida; stepsons, Erwin “Sonny” Newcomb of Brewer, and Bill Henry and wife, Janice, of Georgia; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grand-children, three nephews and one niece. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Lydick); a brother, Harry; and sisters, Isabelle, Dorothy and Mary. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with the Rev. Linda Smith officiating.
