FREEPORT – Jonathan Crabtree Robinson, 72, of Bow Street, died March 6, 2005, at his home with family, friends and his beloved dog, Logan, at his side. He was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Houlton the son of Rev. Morris R. and Mary (Crabtree) Robinson. He was a 1950 graduate of Concord High School in Concord, Mass. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as a Bosunmate 2nd Class. He later attended the University of Maine at Orono where he was a longtime member of the M Club. In 1958, he graduated from the Mutual Insurance Institute of Chicago. Thus began a long and successful career in the insurance industry. He worked for Maine Mutual Insurance Group until 1970 and then moved to become a partner in the Desmond and Payne Insurance of Falmouth. He earned his CPCU designation in 1974. Until he retired in 1992, he was heavily involved in many aspects of the Northern New England insurance field as well. Some of his many accomplishments include Vice President and Director of Patrons-Oxford Insurance Company, President of the Maine Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, President of the Cumberland County Agents Association, President of the Maine Insurance Agents Council, President of the Maine Chapter of C.P.C.U., Vice President of the Professional Insurance Agents Council of New England as well as Chairman of the Licensing Board of the Maine State Insurance Bureau. In 1986 he was named, Northern New England PIA Agent of the Year. He was also the first licensed Insurance Consultant in Maine. He was involved in the Episcopal Church as well as many community activities all his life. Most recently he was chairman of the Freeport Community Library Building committee, as well as a member of the board of directors. Most recently, he was nominated to the Design Review Board for the town of Freeport. Jon relished his time at the family camp in northern Maine. He loved everything about salt water boating (wooden boats, please!). He was an avid reader, a wonderful singer and loved to travel. He is survived by his first wife, Carolyn (Olsen) Robinson of Cumberland; and his second wife, Penelope (Curtis) Robinson of Freeport; son, Mark A. Robinson and wife, Patricia, of Cumberland; son, David R. Robinson of Crystal; daughter Kristen Robinson and Stan Daney of Lyman; and grandsons, Seth M. Robinson and wife, Melissa, of Lewiston, Samuel K. Robinson and Christian R. Robinson of Cumberland. A commemorative gathering will held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Freeport Community Library. Friends and colleagues are welcomed to attend.
