CHINA – Joseph Carroll Bailey Jr. Hannan, 34, of China, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, from injuries sustained in a tragic accident on April 15, surrounded by his family and friends. Joseph was born on July 13, 1969, in Augusta, a son of Kerwin and Violet (St. Pierre) Hannan. He graduated from Erskine Academy, Class of 1988. He also attended the Capital Area Vocational School, where he studied auto mechanics. It was during this time he met his future wife, Dawnn A. Duquette and they were married on Aug. 30, 1997, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta. Joe had a very strong work ethic. For the past 22 years he had been employed at the Banton Lumber Mill in Palermo. In the past year he took over the operation of the mill after losing his mentor, David Banton, who had guided him along in the operations of the business. He enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, snowmobiling, he especially enjoyed spending quality time fishing with his daughter. He was a member of the Friends and Neighbors ATV Club in Palermo. Joe will also be known for always helping those in need. Joe was an organ donor and even after his death two women in New England have already benefited from organ donation. He was predeceased by his biological father, Joseph C. Bailey Sr.; a very special niece, Heidi Hannan, who died on Aug. 19, 2003; his best friend, David Banton, who died on Jan. 22, 2003. He was also predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife of six years, Dawnn A. Hannan; one daughter, Daysha Hannan, both of Augusta; his parents, Kerwin and Violet Hannan of Palermo; one brother and best friend, Robert G. Hannan and his wife, Nancy, of Palermo; father-in-law, Jim Duquette of Litchfield; many special aunts, uncles and cousins; and many, many close friends. He is also survived by Walter and Lea Banton of Palermo, who were special friends and like grandparents to him. The family would like to thank in a special way all the nursing staff and care takers at Eastern Maine Medical Center for their expression of kindness and helpful support. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation 12 noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Palermo Christian Church, with the Rev. Edward Hatch officiating. Burial will follow at the Hannan Cemetery in Palermo.
