OLD TOWN – Joseph D. Poitras, 77, died peacefully Jan. 23, 2006, at an Orono healthcare facility. He was born June 28, 1928, in Grand Falls, N.B., Canada, a son of Leonard and Helen (Goodreau) Poitras. Joe was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a hard working, honest and dependable man and was employed for many years as an auto body technician. During his retirement, he still enjoyed tinkering on cars and keeping himself busy. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Clarice (Buzzell) Poitras; a son, Kevin Poitras of Old Town; two brothers, Harding Poitras of Nova Scotia and Maurice Poitras of Toronto, Ontario; a sister, Ethel McLaughlin of Grand Falls, N.B.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Gilbert and Norman. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Family Parish, with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe, celebrant. Immediately following the service all are invited to the Holy Family Parish Center for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Spring interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
