BUCKSPORT – Josephine “Jo-Ann” DeBout, 45, died July 25, 2007, at her home. She was born Oct. 8, 1961, in Geneva, N.Y., the daughter of William Smead Jr. and Evelyn (McNiel) Smead. She attended Geneva High School and was a member of St. Stephen’s Parish. She is survived by her significant other, Adam Staples of Bucksport; her three children, Barbara Ann, Jacquelyn and Robert; her grandson, Damien; several aunts, Mary Alice Bailey of Melbourne, Fla., Mary Long, Florence M. Niel, Mary Kay Bolen, Betty DeWitt, and Flo Bennett, all of Geneva, N.Y., and Ann Hicks of Ohio; her uncle, John and his wife, Maureen. Also in Jo-Ann’s life are special friends and Adam’s family, Arthur, Karen, Jason and Megan Staples. She was predeceased by her father, William Smead Jr.; her mother, Evelyn Smead; two brothers, Kenneth “Corky” and Glen. Jo-Ann touched everyone’s life in a special way. She was a good friend and a wonderful woman who loved my son dearly. She will be greatly missed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date for her friends and family.
