KATHRYN B. BLACKINGTON ROCKLAND – Kathryn B. Blackington, 75, died Monday, July 9, 2007, at Knox Center for Long Term Care, Rockland. Born Jan. 22, 1932, in Rockland, she was a daughter of Lockhart L. and B. Frances Vinal Curry. She attended Rockland schools and was a 1950 graduate of Rockland High School. Throughout her youth, Kathryn worked for her father in the family business of Curry’s Greenhouse and later on a per diem basis, until that business closed. Upon graduating high school, she began employment as a teller with Knox County Trust Co., which later became Depositors Trust Co. She ultimately retired from Key Bank in the late 1980s. Kathryn married Carl O. Blackington, Sept. 5, 1959, in Thomaston. The couple resided in Rockland most of their married life. Kathryn enjoyed baking pies for church suppers, reading and taking bus tours with her husband. She was a longtime member of Aldersgate Methodist Church. Mrs. Blackington is survived by her husband of 47 years; one daughter, Lisa B. Bengtsson and her husband, Christopher, of Rockport; two brothers, Linwood Curry of Camden, and Dennis Curry of Union; one sister, Lorraine Niemi of South Thomaston; and one grandson, William Bengtsson of Rockport. A celebration of Kathryn’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 156 Lakeview Drive, Route 17, Rockland, with the Rev. Paul Marshall will officiating. Private interment will be at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
