EAST MILLINOCKET – Keith Sumner Lowry, 77, passed away July 25, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia (Ware) Lowry. He was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Monticello, a son of William and Alta (Hutchinson) Lowry. After having graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1949, Keith attended Ricker College, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953. He also received his Master of Science in education degree in physics and mathematics, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965, and while there, he received a Post-Masters Fellowship in chemistry. He taught high school math and science for many years, retiring from Schenck High School, in 1987. He served as an adjunct professor at Eastern Maine Technical College and for many years was the local adult education director. He was a member of First Congregational Church, U.C.C., East Millinocket, serving on various committees and boards, including a term as church moderator. Keith was also a church organist until he became too ill to continue. Keith was an avid outdoorsman and hobbyist, a man of many interests. He loved to hunt and fish, along with rebuilding antique cars and spending hours on his ham radio. From college on, he enjoyed movie projection and even set up a home theater in his basement. Keith’s greatest love was that of music, having played in bands, orchestras and combos for more than 50 years. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his son, the Rev. Michael Lowry and his wife, Lisa (McHatten) Lowry of Dover, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jacob Lowry of Portland, and Sarah and Zachary Lowry of Dover, Ohio; sister, Louise London and her husband, Floyd Smith, of New Limerick and Windsor, Conn.; sister, Marie Hanson of Hadley, Mass.; sister-in-law, Norma Lowry of Monticello; brother-in-law, Theron Sparrow of Middletown, N.J.; a brother and sister-in-law, Newell and Lorraine Ware of Owego, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Alexander Lowry; sister, Arlene Sparrow; and his brother-in-law, Herbert London. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at First Congregational Church, U.C.C., East Millinocket, where a funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, with Pastor Andrew MacLeod and the Rev. Michael Lowry officiating. Interment will be after the service at East Millinocket Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be after in the church’s dining room.
