ADDISON – Laura Ramsay, 77, went to be with her Lord Feb. 9, 2008, with her loving family at her side. One of 12 children, she was born July 27, 1930, in Columbia Falls, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Iva (Grant) Dorr. Mrs. Ramsay attended sch-ool in Columbia Falls, graduating in 1949. She was a loving wife and mother, with a determined spirit, she received her final education at the University of Maine – Farmington, Machias and Orono, receiving her bachelor’s in education from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1985. She was an educator within SAD 37, teach-ing at elementary schools in Harrington, Addison and finishing her career in Cherryfield. She was devoted to the children of SAD 37 for 28 years. While teaching at sch-ool, her main focus was to teach the fundamentals and make the most of each child’s opportunities while at school. Some of her enjoyments included being a den mother for Cub Scouts, a lifetime member of Little River Church, Columbia, a Sunday school teacher for many years and a secretary at Church Hill Cemetery, Addison. She was also the treasurer of the Teachers Association and Columbia Falls Alumni Association. Over the course of her lifetime, she picked blueberries, worked in the Bean Factory, picked potatoes, shucked clams, cleaned shrimp, packed fish and made wreaths. She enjoyed reading, sewing, making quilts for her family and others, and loved to cook. Cherished memories were spent together with family on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The family also spent many summers at the camp on Sch-oodic Lake, where many mem-ories were made with family, friends and students. She shar-ed 57 years of marriage with Lennox Ramsay of Addison. In addition to her husband, family members include her two sons, Robert Ramsay and his wife, Joan, and Ronald Ramsay and his wife, Tracy, all of Addison; five grandchildren, Drew, Ryan, Taylor, Lauren and Anna Ramsay; siblings, Eleanor Chipman, Arlene Atwater, Leona Bailey, Barbara Pinkham and Donna Snyder; a very special friend and sister, Wilma Newcomb; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be sadly missed by a lifelong friend and confidant, Julia Wor-cester. She was predeceased by three brothers, Shirley Dorr, Embert Dorr and Robert Dorr; and two sisters, Gertrude Smith and Betty Chipman. A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Cherryfield Elementary Sch-ool, School Street, Cherryfield, with Mike Beal officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Private burial will be at Church Hill Cemetery, Addison.
