PRESQUE ISLE – Lela H. Benson, 89, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born June 3, 1918, in Florenceville, New Brunswick, the daughter of Guy N. and Annie I. (Wiggins) Holmes. She worked as an accountant and office manager for the ABC Bakery for 23 years, worked at University of Maine – Presque Isle and retired from Nutrite, Presque Isle. Lela is survived by three sons and their wives, George R. and Erin Benson of Caribou, John R. and Lisa Benson of Lompoc, Calif., Bruce W. and Marie Benson of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Anne A. Wenzel and her husband, Tim, of Santee, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grand-children. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell, in 1998; two brothers, John and Glen; and a sister, Lois. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Relatives and friends may call noon Friday until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Pres-que Isle.
