LLOYD E. CUNNINGHAM BUCKSPORT – Lloyd E. Cunningham, 33, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 15 2005. He was born May 8, 1972, in Bangor, the first-born son of Ronald and Candace Cunningham, also of Bucksport, and only brother of Matthew Cunningham, of Watertown, Mass. He is survived by his grandmother, Maida Cunningham, of Bucksport; and was predeceased by his grandfather, Richard Cunningham; and grandparents, Wendell and Mertie Merrick, of East Holden. Lloyd leaves behind an abundance of loving aunts and uncles, cousins, and a collection of friends whom he considered to be like family. Lloyd was a true man of the sea, and his dreams and spirit were nourished by the cool, salty, waters of coastal Maine. He was a passionate scuba diver, avid fisherman, and on his way to becoming a wise woodsman. He often made his living from the land, and was the embodiment of a traditional Downeaster. Although Lloyd’s life was short and he rarely followed the easy road, his was a life filled with much adventure and excitement. He had deep interest in science and nature, cars, history, drawing, and music. He was a quiet and sensitive man, spiritual, and always deep in thought–he explored aspects of the world through his artwork and personal writing. Sometimes secretive and sometimes not, he was mysterious and caring, and always aboard for any journey. His family and friends will always remember him for his hearty accent and his mischievous yet sincere smile. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, with Pastor Peter Remick, officiating at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A gathering of conversation and refreshment will follow the service at the home of Ronald and Candace Cunningham, 294 Masthill Road, Bucksport. Donations in his memory may be made to the Open-Door Recovery House of Ellsworth, 8 Old Mill Road, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
