EASTPORT – Louise Barrett Adams, 88, went to join her husband Charles H. Adams Jr., on Friday Feb. 6, 2004. She was born March 28, 1915, in Eastport, the daughter of Daniel and Alice Mae Barrett. She was a lifelong resident of Eastport, where she graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1932, and married her husband of 46 years in 1935. Louise was a 50-year member of the Seaside Pythian Sisters Temple No. 59, and a member of the Pythian Sisters Past Chiefs Club. Louise worked as an administrative secretary for the WPA during the Quoddy Dam Project in the 1930’s and many years she greeted local Eastporter’s at the Sunbeam Restaurant in Eastport, where she worked as a waitress. Never afraid of hard work, Louise worked in the local sardine factories as a fish packer and several years at Guilford Industries. Her fondest memory of her working years was her job at J.J. Newberry’s in Eastport, where her husband found “his million dollar baby in a 5 & 10-cent store.” She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Adams Jr. in 1981; her son, Charles F. Adams Sr., in 1990. She is survived by her son, Danny and wife, Rose, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Louise Leighton and husband, Kenneth, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; son, Richard and wife, Dora, of Dennysville; daughter, Mary Henrique and husband, Robert, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 20 grandchildren, Debora, Danny, Charles-Micheal, Dawn, Dale, and Misty of Texas, Charles Francis of Arizona, Roger of Maryland, Paul, Allen, Stephen and John of Maine, Kent of Maryland, David, Billy and Danny of Maine, Richard Jr. of New Jersey, and Michael of Florida, Stacie and Carrie of Maine; and a very special great-granddaughter, Courtney; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Louise will be sadly missed by her many friends and loved ones she made over the years, and especially by her “adopted daughter,” Sharon Cook and her son-in-law, Kenneth Curtis. Funeral services will be held at the Flagg Funeral Home 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, with the Rev. Windhorst officiating. Interment will be in the spring. Following the service an open house will be held at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Adams Sr., 3 Milwaukee Road, Dennysville. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to donate to the Shead High School Alumni Fund.
