BELFAST – Beloved mother Louise Elizabeth Stewart Salisbury, born Oct. 16, 1918, in Garland, left this world with all its strife on Dec. 3, 2004, at a local nursing facility. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvard Dwinell Salisbury in 1972. Survivors are her children, Dennis Paul Salisbury of Roosevelt, Utah, Carol Ann Salisbury Peterson of Calais; 12 grandchildren, Harvard Peterson, George Peterson, Mark Peterson, Kenneth Peterson, Rose Peterson, Curtis Salisbury, Michael Salisbury, Stephen Salisbury, Wesley Salisbury, George Salisbury, Adam Salisbury, Dianna Fisher; and six great-grandchildren. Of the many achievements Louise accrued in her lifetime, none stand alone like her work in the Belfast community as a registered nurse and her tireless efforts in restoring her husband to health after his first stroke. She graduated from the Waldo County Hospital’s nursing program and worked in various nursing roles as an RN until meeting and marrying her husband, and returned to the nursing scene after his death. She worked in many capacities, as a Community Health Nurse in Waldo County, an RN for KnoWaLin, and as a matron for the Deborah Lincoln House. Louise nearly single-handedly restored her husband Harvard to health after his stroke in 1965. Through her hard work, he walked assisted and could care for himself until he died in 1972. Her devotion to her husband and family set the standard for her children and their families. Louise’s children would like to thank the Deborah Lincoln House and the Harbor Hill Nursing Home in making their mother’s life there befitting the honor she deserves as matriarch of their family. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
