SEAL COVE and ZEPHRYHILLS, Fla. – Malcolm “Mac” Dow passed away Aug. 7, 2008, after a long, courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born June 3, 1932, in Dayton, the second son of George Bert and Alice (Cole) Dow. The Dow family moved to Oakfield in 1947 and Mac grad-uated valedictorian of his class from Oakfield High School in 1949. He began a lifelong love of all sports and participated in everything available. After attending Ricker College in the fall of 1949, Mac was invited by the Army to join them for three years in Korea, where he earn-ed two Purple Hearts and was proud to say he had served one year in the 1st Division, known as the “Big Red One.” He was discharged in March 1951. Upon returning to Maine, he attended Ricker College for one more year. His first marriage in 1958 ended in divorce in 1965, but left him the proud father of four children. He worked as a heavy equipment operator until entering the post office in 1965. He retired as postmaster in Bar Harbor in 1992. Mac remained very active in sports as a coach, instructor for the Red Cross swimming program and learn-ing golf. He remarried in 1993 to Mary Ann Beal McIntire from Seal Cove. They spent many enjoyable days camping, hiking, hunting, going on cruises and playing golf. After wintering in Florida for several years, they moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., in 1995. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann of Seal Cove and Zephyrhills, Fla.; daughter, Rebecca and husband, Mike, of North New Portland; two sons, Frederick and wife, Chrissy, of Ewing, N.J., and Malcolm Hank Dow Jr. of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Joann Dunton, Gar-rett, Haley and Jourdan Dow, Brittany and Nicholas Woodward, Bryon and Tyler McIntire; sisters, Joyce Taylor and husband, Russell, of Houlton; sisters-in-law, Clare Brown and husband, Ray, of Trenton and Ruth Dow of Newport News, Va.; brother-in-law, Bob Callnan of New Limerick; stepchildren, Scott McIntire, Sheryl and Troy Woodward; many nieces and nephews. Mac was predeceased by his parents; son, William; brother, Marvin; and sister, Janet. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at Hillrest Cemetery, Tremont.
