CHARLESTON – Margaret (Duran) Higgins, 87, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Margaret was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Bradford, to Eugene and Annie (Cunningham) Duran. Margaret was the head cook at Charleston Elementary School for 40 years. She retired in 2000 at age 80. She was a faithful member of Charleston Pentecostal Church and a supporter of Souls Harbor. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles “Shine,” in November 2006. She is survived by her sons, Carroll and Sherry Higgins of Lincoln and Barry and Mary Higgins of Charleston; her loving grandchildren, Amy and Mike Bishop, BJ and Randa Higgins, Scott and Linda Higgins, and Traci and Steve Segenchuk; her eight great-grandchildren, Brandon and Barrett Bishop, McKenna and Kylie Higgins, Kira and Keenan Segenchuk, and Jeremy and Hannah Higgins; her sister, Betty Howard of Dexter and Madeline Tasker of Brewer; a brother-in-law, Henry “Bud” and wife, Shirley Higgins, of Charleston; and her special nieces, Sherry Bradford and Elaine Scott. Margaret was a wonderful wife and mother, known to her four grandchildren and eight great-grand-children as “Nana,” and was greatly loved by all. The family thanks special friends, Lucille Potter, Bob and Joan Morrison for their support; and the support of Charleston Pentecostal Church and Souls Harbor. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Charleston Pentecostal Church where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday.
