PAWCATUCK, Conn. – Margaret Larancy MacGregor, 90, died Wednesday evening, May 17, 2006, at Mariner Health at Pendleton in Mystic, Conn. where she had been a resident for only a short time. She was born July 16, 1915, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of James MacGregor and Myrtie Virginia Talmadge MacIntyre. She met Donald Henry MacGregor, the love of her life, and they eloped to Elkton, Md. and were married July 16, 1938. She attended Brooklyn Nursing Hospitals’ classes and worked for some time as a nurse practitioner. She also worked as a school secretary at Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, Conn. for several years during her working career. Besides her home and family, her interests included creating handiwork of all kinds from crewelwork, to crocheting and knitting afghans and pillows for friends and family. She was always working on handcrafted projects for her churches’ fairs and fundraisers. She was a great fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and was a happy and faithful Red Sox fan, gratefully enjoying their World Series win. She also followed the accomplishments of the University of Maine basketball team, the Husson men’s basketball team whom her son coached and also the UCONN girl’s basketball team. She was a founding member of the Fairfield Methodist Church. She will always be remembered by all as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Donald Henry MacGregor; their son and his wife, Donald Bruce and Christine MacGregor of Bangor and their daughter and her husband, Bonnie Jean and John Larkin of Stonington, Conn.; six grandchildren, Betsy Webb of Bangor, David MacGregor of Azusa, Calif., J. Scott Larkin of Rocky Hill, Conn., Jill St. Peter of Ellsworth, Kathleen McAneany of Madison, Conn. and James Larkin of Haddam, Conn.; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miriam Treadwell of Wallingford, Conn. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Road Church of Stonington, Conn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours and burial will take place at a later date.
