CHERRYFIELD – Margery Katherine (Crowley) Brown, 79, died Dec. 3, 2006, at her home. She was born July 26, 1927, in Corea, the daughter of Milford M. and Florence M. (McEntee) Crowley. Margery’s early childhood was spent in her beloved Corea. The family moved to Rockland during World War II, and she graduated from Rockland High School, Class of 1945. She attended Fisher Business College, Somerville, Mass. In 1947, she married her husband of 54 years, Ted Brown. They moved to Cherryfield in 1952. Margery had always been very active in town affairs including town clerk for nine years, planning board for 10 years, election warden, town meeting moderator and most recently town selectman. She had volunteered for many organizations with some of them being Cherryfield Free Public Library, Sunrise Economic Council, Washington County Council of Government and the Cherryfield – Narraguagus Historical Society. She had been the president of the historical society for 32 years and was affectionately know as the town historian. She was recognized for all of these by receiving a 2 Those Who Care Award in 2005. She was a charter member of the reorganized Cherryfield Grange No. 256 where she had presided as chaplain and past flora. She is survived by three children, Lawrence and his wife, Cheryl, Michael and his wife, Pamela and Katherine Upton and her husband, Ronald, all of Cherryfield; two grandchildren, Eli Brown of Milbridge and Rebecca Brown of Cherryfield; and six stepgrandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Willard Brown and wife, Elsie, of South Thomaston and Leroy Brown of Belfast; and a sister-in-law, Priscilla Crowley of Aberdeen, Md. Margery was predeceased her husband, Ted in 2002; a daughter, Bethany Brown in 1962; and a brother, Leslie Crowley in 2002. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Corea Cemetery, Corea. A celebration of Margery’s life will be held at a future date. Margery’s last wish was for people to volunteer to make their community a better place.
