EASTON – Heaven welcomed our beloved and precious “Mama,” Marion E. Blinn, 85, 12:40 a.m. March 19, 2005, after an eight week battle with re-curing cancer. She was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Gilbert’s Cove, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Samuel and Kazira Comeau. At the age of 10, her father died with pneumonia leaving her mother a widow with eight children, Mom being the second. At the age of 16, she went to work for an elderly couple in Bear River who eventually left her the farm plus 100 acres. She met “Daddy” James A. Blinn in 1938 and they married two years later on April 16, 1940. They sold the farmhouse and farm when Daddy felt the call to full time ministry and left to attend N.B.B.I. in Hartland, N.B. from 1947-1949. The first three children had arrived by this time. After bible college, Daddy and Mama pastored churches in Crystal (1953-1956), Jonesport (1956-1963) and Presque Isle (1963-1970). Before they moved to Presque Isle, the last three children had arrived. In 1970, we moved to Easton and Daddy started his full-time mission work. Mama worked nights as a cook at the local potato plant. She left there and worked at TAMC as a cook and baker from 1972-1988. She was known for her delicious desserts especially her coconut cream pies! She loved to cook and entertain people in her home. She hosted a Ladies Bible Study on Tuesday mornings for several years. She encouraged people with her card ministry. She was a faithful member of Easton Wesleyan Church since 1970 and loved and supported each pastor with her prayers. She had a genuine love and concern for everyone she met. She had a way of making each one feel special. She had a great sense of humor and wit. Among her many talents and gifts, she loved to cook, sew, knit, read, do her own housekeeping, write letters, entertain her family, especially her grandchildren in her home. She loved to take pictures of family and special occasions, spend time with special friends at Tim Horton’s, but her greatest talent and gift was loving and praying for people. We will miss her prayers, but they will follow us. A special highlight each year was attending Beulah Camp meeting in Browns Flat, N.B. each July. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. James A. Blinn (1997); two daughters, Juanita Sweetser (1994), and Gloria Bell (1998); four brothers, Archie, Henry, Irvin and Dennis, all of Nova Scotia. She is survived by one son, Rev. Wayne Blinn and wife, Grace; three daughters, Donna and husband, Michael Corey, Rebecca and husband, Rev. Larry O. Palmer, and Marcia and husband, Rev. Rick Kavanaugh; two sons-in-law, Ralph Sweetser and Dan Bell; three sisters, Beatrice Amero, Alice Doucette and Lena Robicheau of Nova Scotia; 11 grandchildren, Nolan Blinn, Edella Vezina, Stanley Blinn, Shawn Corey, Carmine Bortner, Jeremy Corey, Bradley Blinn, Marion Bell, Candace Kavanaugh, Dwayne Bell and David Kavanaugh; three great-granddaughters, Navy, Freja and London, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, at Easton Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Matthew Maxwell officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Easton Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 15, Easton, ME 04740.
