HAMPDEN – Marion Stephen Ryder, 86, passed away peacefully, Nov. 19, 2003, at his home in Hampden. He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Bar Harbor, the son of George and Edith (Torrey) Ryder. He is survived by his wife, Pauline F. (Whitney) Moffatt Ryder; one stepson, Robert Moffatt and his wife, Shirley, of Davenport, Fla., and East Millinocket; four step-granddaughters and one step-grandson, Roberta and Brian Condon of Gaston, S.C., Dorothy and Paul Orr of Ludlow, Mass., Kathleen and Brian Sullivan of Coventry, R.I., William and Lori Moffatt of East Millinocket and Mary and Joel Thompson of Medway; one brother, Ralph Ryder of Franklin; and many special nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Frances Estelle Pippen Ryder in 1965; his daughter, Joyce M. Ryder in 2003; one sister, Alice Teague; and four brothers, Rudolph, Charles, Francis and Cecil. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Marion was a carpenter by trade and built his home on Patterson Street in Hampden. Marion was a creative man with a genius for building things. He made many things in his home to make life easier for his wife. Marion leaves a legacy of being a kind, gentle and giving man who was unselfish in his love for his family. He was an excellent golfer and lived to golf, he also enjoyed ham radios and his radio call number was 1AIE. He will forever live in the hearts of his adoring family and the many lives he has touched. In keeping with his wishes, interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. <
