SEARSPORT – Marsha L. An-derson, 59, passed away Dec. 15, 2007, at her home. She was born Jan. 5, 1948, in New Bri-ghton, Pa., daughter of Dwight and Jean (Davis) Anderson. Marsha Anderson was an advocate of educational rights for students with English Language Learners, ELLs, and a private educator to students with emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities. Ms. Anderson began her teaching career in 1986 with the founding of Art Goes to School in the Somers Point, N.J., School District, which reached more than 6,000 students each year. For six years, she worked as a long-term substitute for special education, English as a Second Language, ESL, math, consumer science and art. Since 2005, she focused on ELL teaching standards and testing in the state of Maine to improve teaching and testing accountability, remove bias and create a greater level of sensitivity for this population of students. A graduate of Thomas Edison State College, Trenton, N.J., with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies, Ms. Anderson felt that education is essential to the wellbeing of society. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, fine arts and traveling Maine’s seacoast. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Marsha’s laughter and humor will be remembered by all who knew her and cared deeply about her. She succumbed to an intense battle with cancer at home. Marsha is survived by her mother, Jean D. Anderson; her two sons, James D. Hutton and Ian Charles Hutton and his wife, Lisa; and granddaughter, Malia. She will be missed greatly by her two daughters, Amanda French and Ardrianna McLane and her husband, Shawn.
