MADAWASKA – Martin Beaulieu, 97, died Feb. 2, 2008, at a Madawaska nursing home. He was born June 4, 1910, in New Canada, the son of Honor? and Odile (Pelletier) Beaulieu, being the oldest of 11 children. He was raised on his family’s farm and later farmed for himself in the Frenchville area. Martin later transitioned away from farming and moved on to work as an agricultural produce inspector in various parts of the East Coast. He was a charter member for the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2638, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 0366 of Madawaska and held various official positions within the council throughout the years. Martin graduated from Madawaska Training School, Fort Kent and was active in sports, such as football and baseball during the course of his studies. Martin was an ardent supporter of Boy Scout Troop No. 190 of Madawaska for several years and also served as treasurer for Madawaska Forever Young Club. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gertrude (Beaupr) Beaulieu of Madawaska; four sons, Ronald Beaulieu and his wife, Georgette, of Presque Isle, Raymond Beaulieu and his wife, Ida, of Madawaska, Roger Beaulieu and his wife, Donna, of American Fork, Utah, and Robert Beaulieu and his wife, Verna, of Grand Isle; one daughter, Jeanne Chartier of Bristol, Conn.; three brothers, Ross Beaulieu of Sebring, Fla., Sylvio Beaulieu of Mooresville, N.C., and Paul Beaulieu of New Britain, Conn.; three sisters, Maybelline Nadeau of Naples, Fla., Therese Dube of Tallahassee, Fla., and Juliette Beaulieu of Lakeland, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Camille Beaulieu; and by two sisters, Aurore Bouchard and Jeanne St. Amant. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Church, Madawaska. Friends and relatives may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
