GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mr. Marvin Coburn, 84, a retired businessman who founded Kent, Inc. in Fort Kent in 1976, died at his home in Greenville, S.C., on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004. Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Coburn graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. After serving with the Third Army in Europe during World War II, he remained in post-war England to study business at Brighton College. He married Bttee Lee Dobry in 1947, and became a founder of Stayon Products. Mr. Coburn moved Stayon’s operations to South Carolina in 1956. With the purchase of Princess Kent in 1963, Mr. Coburn initiated what would become a 40-year involvement with the Town of Fort Kent and the people of the St. John’s Valley. Surviving are his wife; two children; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to St. Francis Hospice, 414 Pettigru St., Greenville, SC 29601.
