CONCORD, N.H. – Mary Alice (Stockford) Morgan, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007, surrounded by loving family and caregivers at the CRVNA Hospice House, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. The daughter of Fredrick L. Stockford and Nina P. (Wallace) Stockford, Mary was born June 3, 1924, in Dover Foxcroft. She graduated from Island Falls High School as class salutatorian in 1942. A unique mix of grace and irreverence, her unflagging sense of humor was intact until the last. An artistic spirit, she worked in numerous media throughout the years, and in recent years, enjoyed creating beauty through embroidery and gardening. She held various administrative positions until she retired from the state highway department in 1986. Until his death in 1974, she was a devoted partner and supporter of her husband of 30 years, Harrison B. Morgan, and a participant in his numerous interests and activities including photography, watchmaking and gemology, radio-control model aviation and ham radio, for which she attained an operator’s license in the 1950s. Mary was a member of Bethany Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. In addition to many new and long-standing dear friends, Mary leaves four children, Harrison B. Morgan III of Hartford, Conn., Margo A. Ramsey of Middletown, Del., Stephen S. Morgan of Strafford, N.H., and Jeannine L. McCoy of Portsmouth, N.H., and their families, including eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Along with extended family members in Maine, Massachusetts and around the country and the world, Mary is survived by her sister, Phyllis Leonard of Lunenburg, Mass., and Philip Stockford of Warwick, R.I. She was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Stockford of Hopkinton, N.H. Carrying out her belief that love never dies, a celebration of Mary’s life will take place 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Bennett Funeral Home, 3 Church St., the brick building, Concord, N.H.
