KENNEBUNK – Mary Ann Osgood, 70, was born June 9, 1933, in Presque Isle, the only daughter of Thomas and Viola (Anderson) Nickerson of Mars Hill. During her high school years at ACI, she was involved with many musical activities, graduating in 1951. She attended the University of Maine at Orono for two years, and then earned an associate degree in Secretarial Science from Husson College in 1954. That same year, she married Fred Osgood and lived in Easton for more than 40 years, happily immersing herself in life in “The County,” to which she forever referred to as “God’s Country.” She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Mars Hill, and then in Easton. She devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to raising her four children and to helping Fred make sure things ran smoothly on the potato farm. Nevertheless, she still managed to find the time for her close circle of friends whom she held near and dear to her heart. She loved to recollect the snowmobile rides, days spent swimming and sunning at Monson Pond, Portage, and Grand Lake, dancing and socializing. In addition to being a full-time homemaker, Mrs. Osgood had been employed at Maine Public Service Company in Presque Isle, Hussey & Hussey, Attorney at Law, in Mars Hill, and she worked as a Psychiatric Technician for the Aroostook Medical Center. After moving to Old Town to be with her daughter, she was employed at Community Health and Counseling in Bangor for several years, until her failing health forced her into early retirement. Mary Ann was a die-hard Red Sox fan; she also loved cooking, gardening, dancing and music. Her greatest love, however, revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was in her glory when she was running the kitchen, surrounded by family and friends. Mary Ann, a.k.a. Mom, Mimi, Nan, and Grammy Nana, will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Tom and his wife, Ann, of Easton, and Jeff and his wife, Pamela, of Scarborough; her two daughters, Laurie Bjorn, and Julie Barros and her husband, Mario, all of Kennebunk; her nine grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Michael, Christopher, Michelle, Chelsea, Avery and Lilly; and a lifelong special friend, Fred Osgood of Easton. Family and friends are invited to gather at a celebration of Mary Ann’s life to be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton with the Rev. Larry Sullivan officiating. In lieu of flowers of monetary donations, the family would request that all who knew Mary Ann would, in her memory, take any opportunity they can to discourage loved ones from smoking; to encourage them never to start, and if they already smoke, to keep encouraging them to quit – and of course, to never give up on the Sox! Arrangements in the care of Duncan Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
