BEVERLY, Mass. – Mary B. Upton, 87, passed into the presence of the Lord on Oct. 22, 2004, at her home in Beverly, Mass. Mary was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Bayonne, N.J. She was the daughter of Louis and Bertha Slavinski. Recently Mary celebrated her 87th birthday at Harborlight House where she lived, and was honored by many friends and family members. Mary was married in March of 1946 to George V. Upton Jr. They made their home in Bangor until his death in Jan. 1987. Mary worked hard to care for her family, working as an employee at the King Cole Company and Jordan Meats, both located in Bangor. Mary continued to live in the family home until 1993 when she moved to live near her daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Michael Josephson, in Portland. Mary had a great attitude and an adventurous spirit. She learned to drive at age 70 and purchased her first new car. Over the last 10 years, she traveled with her daughter and son-in-law from Maine to the Southwest, the West Coast and eventually back to New England. She was a special person with a great sense of humor which remained with her throughout her life. Her charm and humor were among the many reasons she was so well loved. Mary is survived by M. Barbara (Upton) Regis of Sanford; Michael and Roberta (Upton) Josephson of Rockport, Mass.; and Sandra (Upton) Lewis of Scott Deport, W. Va.; Frank Slavinski, Josie Slavinski and Helen (Slavinski) Rigney, of Bayonne, N.J.; grandchildren, Lisa (Russell) Andrews, Matthew Russell, their husbands and wives of Maine; one great-granddaughter, Kerrigan Andrews. Arrangements by Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home, 9 Dane Street, Beverly, Mass.
