PORTAGE LAKE and PLANT CITY, Fla. – Mary Louise (Gallupe) Bishop, 80, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born March 7, 1927, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Asa T. and Margaret (Dorsey) Gallupe. Mary graduated third in her class in 1944 from Fort Fairfield High School, and continued her education at a business school in Bangor. She married Richard J. Bishop, Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1946. She worked as a secretary and an optometry assistant. Mary loved nature, cooking, and was an avid reader. Mary and Dick spent their winters in Florida starting in 1986. They enjoyed square and round dancing and playing golf. Mary was co-founder of the Northeast Audubon Society; member of the National Ski Patrol; the Spudshufflers, Presque Isle; and the Portage Hills Country Club. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Thomas; stepgrandson, Keith Meibaum; and a nephew, John T. Watson. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard “Dick” of Portage Lake; a son, Richard “Dick” Jr. and his wife, Terri, of Plant City, Fla.; two daughters and theirs husbands, Peggy and Stephen Gudreau of Mapleton, and Jayne and Paul Lundwall of Milford, N.H.; a brother, Gary Gallupe and his wife, Lillian, of Belleair, Fla.; two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Jerome Clair of Brewer, and Mona and Jack Watson of Fort Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Polly Gallupe of Clearwater, Fla.; four grandchildren, Chris and Doug Bishop, and James and Alex Lundwall; two stepgrandchildren, John Meibaum and June Sumner; five great-stepgrandchildren, Zecariah and Logan Meibaum, Noel Farley, Rebecca and Richard Peterson; several nieces and nephews.
