LUBEC and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Marylyn Curtis, beloved mother of Jacquelyn and husband, Peter, Hickey, Chicago, Ill. and Kyna Morrison, Zephyrhills, Fla. died Jan. 30. 2006, after a long illness in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was born in Lubec, in 1920, to Hazel (Kinney) and Fred Cox. In 1993, the people of Lubec honored Mrs. Curtis, upon her retirement, after 46 years of faithful service in her capacity as town clerk of Lubec. The Maine Municipal Association presented her the prestigious Ethel N. Kelley Award in recognition of her years of dedicated commitment to the betterment of city and town government. She also received the highest honor, Lifetime Certification, from the Maine Town and City Clerks Association and served for more than 30 years as secretary to the Maine Municipal Association. Members of the Maine Senate and House of Representatives officially recognized Mrs. Curtis for her service. Marylyn graduated from Lubec High School as valedictorian, Class of 1939. She attended Bangor School of Commerce and began her career at the American Can Company in Lubec. In 1942, she and Hartford Curtis were married. Except for four years in Portsmouth, N.H., they made their home in North Lubec. She was an active member of the Christian Temple Church and the O.E.S. in Pembroke and Florida. In addition to her daughters and son-in-law, she is survived by three grandchildren, Ian Hickey, Stacy and husband, Andy, Stone and Jesyca and husband, Benson, Turner; two great-grandchildren, Tanner Stafford and Aaron Stone; and special nephews, nieces, cousins and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by Hart; her parents, her brother, Robert and his wife, Evelyn. She was loved and will be missed. A private graveside service will be held in Lubec this summer, where she will be by Hart’s side again.
