STATESVILLE, N.C., and FORT FAIRFIELD – Mattie Izetta (Griffeth) Fraser, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 7, 2007, surrounded by family at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Statesville, N.C. She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Limestone, daughter of Rufus and Elva (Hodgkins) Griffeth. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, John and Isabelle Griffeth, after the death of her mother. Mattie graduated from the University of Maine – Presque Isle and taught school in Aroostook County for many years before retiring in 1977. Mattie was predeceased by her loving husband, Isaac Colby Fraser, a veteran of World War II, of Fort Fairfield, March 24, 1959; and her third son, Paul Nelson Fraser of Fredricton, N.B., July 17, 1981; two sisters, Verbena Tapley of Millinocket, and Gwendolyn Pelkey of Four Falls, N.B.; two brothers, Francis A. Griffeth of Hazel Park, Mich.; and her infant twin brother. She was also predeceased by two “special sisters,” Mrs. Vesta Burgess and Mrs. Ellen Fraser. Mattie was a warm and caring mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She will be fondly remembered by her three surviving sons, Stephen Colby Fraser and wife, Meley, of Melborne, Fla., Timothy John Fraser and wife, Susan, of Statesville, N.C., and Peter Leigh Fraser and wife, Teresa, of DePere, Wis.; and daughter, Penny Lynne Rollins and husband, Dave, of Summerville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Colby, Desiree and Carrie Fraser of Melbourne, Fla., Cameron Fraser and his wife, Lisa, of Statesville, N.C., Candi Fraser Hollar and her husband, Tim, of Statesville, N.C., Troy Fraser and his wife, Jodi, of Fredericton, N.B., Melissa Fraser Schaffer of Summerville, S.C., Autumn Leigh-Ann Fraser of Depere, Wis., Corey Rollins of San Antonio, Caron Rollins Siefken and her husband, Laren, of Summerville, S.C., and Nathan Rollins of Summerville, S.C; five great-granddaughters, Dusti Hollar, Amber and Heaven Fraser, Hannah and Madeline Siefken; and three great-stepgrand-daughters, Ashley and Shelby Hollar, and Chloe Hall, all of whom will fondly miss their special “gram”; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no services at this time. A memorial service and interment will take place in Spring 2008 at a time and date to be announced later by Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
