MEDWAY – Today, June 5, 2006, Jesus invited Mazie B. York to walk in the garden of paradise, taking away all suffering and pain. She was born Feb. 11, 1910, in Kingman, the daughter of Josephine Jones and Austin York. Mazie lived at the Katahdin Nursing Home in Millinocket for six years and nine months, with the kind and loving care of an outstanding staff. Mazie enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She knit mittens for many needy children and always made sure a child did not go without mittens. Besides being a homemaker, she worked many years at Foster Clothespin Factory in Mattawamkeag. She also spent 15 years taking care of the elderly and sick. She was a special lady of great strength, asked very little and gave all. She is survived by five daughters, Flora Cramp, Patricia Oliver and husband, Richard, all of Medway, Evangline Thompson of East Millinocket, Donna Cottle and husband, Everett, of Macwahoc, and Elviria Wagner of Selinsgrove, Pa.; a special foster son, Roger Cary of Howland, 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grand-children and 26 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George “Willie” York; a son, Tarzan Bill York; a daughter, Effie B. York; six brothers, Austin, Sumner, Vinal, James, Donald and Bernard York; four sisters, Luda Beech, Grace Jones, Alfreda Curtis, Jennie Thompson; two stepdaughters, Mary Pelkey and Laura Hamm. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, East Millinocket, with Pastor Regginal Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Tree Cemetery, Medway.
