MILBRIDGE – Merrill F. Mathews, 62, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, Nov. 14, 2005. He was born May 8, 1943, the son of Eleanor L. (Burgess) Mathews and the late Harry E. Mathews. Merrill was a graduate of Milbridge High School. He served in the Navy during the Cuban crisis. In most recent years, he worked for R.W. Mathews of Cherryfield until his retirement in May 2005. Merrill loved the outdoors and especially hunting. He was a registered Maine guide and enjoyed all the great friends he made while doing what he loved most. He was a member of the Milbridge Veterans Club. Merrill was known to everyone as “Uncle Merrill”. He brought a smile to the face of everyone he came in contact with, especially children. In addition to his mother, Merrill is survived by one brother, David, of Sullivan; three stepsons, who he thought of as his own, Tommy and Robert Bouchard of Milbridge and Joey Bouchard of Texas; two grandchildren, who were very dear to him, Natasha and Thomas James Bouchard, of Milbridge; a very special friend, Jean Mathews, of Milbridge; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and many, many friends. Merrill was predeceased by his father and sister, Sharon, in 1999; brother, Harry R., in 2000; and his beloved wife, Barbara, in 2002. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Bragdon-Kelley-Camp-bell Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. A graveside service with military honors will take place 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Evergreen Cemetery in Milbridge officiated by Pastor Owen Beal.
