BANGOR and BRADENTON, Fla. – Michael Edward Smith, 57, husband of Yvonne (Daigle) Smith died unexpectedly Oct. 12, 2003, at a Bradenton hospital. He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., the son of L. Edward and Phyllis (Infiorati) Smith. Michael attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from John Bapst, Class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Army served two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired as Master Sergeant with 23 years of service. Following retirement he attended Bradenton Police Academy and became Supervisor of Corrections at the Manatee County Correctional Facility. He was a member of the VFW in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Kirby-Stewart American Legion Post No. 24 of Bradenton and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; his mother, Phyllis I. Smith of Bangor; his daughter, Cindy Smith of Bradenton; three stepdaughters, Linda Labonte of Rye, N.H., Brenda Cote of Gardiner, Mass., Mary Smith of Mesquite, Nev.; two stepsons, Michael Smith of Portland, Simon Smith of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Judith Masters of Aurora, Colo., Mary Catherine Karam of Stillwater; one sister-in-law, Christine Smith of Holden; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, L. Edward Smith in 1997 and his brother, Thomas L. Smith in 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Bradenton on Oct. 15, 2004 followed by burial with full military honors in Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton, Fla. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 in St. Jude’s Chapel at St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Richard C. McLaughlin, pastor celebrant.
