DOVER, Del. and BANGOR – Mildred Cookson, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Cookson was born April 18, 1910, in Bucksport, the daughter of the late Jerome and Minola Colby Brawn. She was a graduate of Gorham Normal College and received her bachelors in education from the University of Maine. She taught in the school districts in the Bangor area more than 30 years, retiring in 1970. Mrs. Cookson was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Eastern Star Tuscan Chapter No. 148 OES in Bangor. She loved reading, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cookson was predeceased by her husband, Elwood Cookson in 1998; a sister, Katherine Acker; and a brother, Orrin Brawn. She is survived by her son, Arnold Cookson and his wife, Dimitra, of Dover, Del.; two grandsons, Paul Cookson and his wife, Lisa, of Magnolia, Del. and Jerome Cookson of Pensacola, Fla.; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Cookson and Nathan Cookson, both of Magnolia, Del.; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Brooking-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services Saturday to the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Spring Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
