MILDRED K. BOWER BREWER – Mildred K. Bower, 83, of Brewer, died Oct. 11, 2003, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 4, 1920, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of Arthur Francis and Marguerite Rebecca (Stone) Kavanagh. Millie was a lifelong member of All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, and exceptionally active in church functions, having served on innumerable committees, board positions, and contributing on many events. She was a member and held positions in various community and scholastic organizations including ADK Sorority, Patawa Club, Junior League, PEO sisterhood, and many others. Millie received her bachelor of arts degree from Salem State College and enjoyed more than 25 years of teaching in the Brewer school system. She was a very warm, friendly, happy, and caring individual who made friends with all she met. Her greatest love and pleasure was her family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, John A. Bower; a son, Robert G. Bower and wife, Denise Paugh; and her daughter, Erika Cass; a sister, Ruth Young; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bower and her children, Jeff Bower, Mark Bower, Christy Bower, and Jody Crouse and husband, Justin. She was predeceased by a son, David A. Bower, in 2002. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 14, at All Souls Congregational Church with Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church Vestry following the services. Interment will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Auburn.
