PRINCETON – Nellie Mae (Guptill) Hayward, 80, died unexpectedly Jan. 1, 2006. She was born Jan. 31, 1925, at Wesley. She was the daughter of Thatcher and Hattie (Durling) Guptill. Nellie attended school in Wesley and East Machias. She was a switchboard operator for New England Telephone and retired as a postal clerk from the Princeton Post Office. Following her retirement, she took great pride in the Hayward blueberry farm in Wesley. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nellie was predeceased by sisters, Lucy and Muriel; and brothers, Shirley, Alex and Olyn. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Billy; her two sons, Keith and his wife, Cam, of Presque Isle and Leo and his wife, Janice, of Baileyville; her grandchildren, Mark and Kim of Lincoln, Chris and Jen of Scarborough, Trent and Kerri-Lynn of Coventry, R.I., Leigh of Presque Isle, Jay and Claire of Biddeford, Billie and Matthew of Washburn, Michael of Princeton, Joel of Princeton and Robbie and Tina of Baileyville; great-grandchildren, Kristie and Nikki of Lincoln, Sullivan and Tatum of Scarborough, Mikayla and Rylee of Presque Isle, Taylor, Haley and Drew of Princeton, Joel Todd of Princeton and Daniel and Hope of Baileyville. Nellie will also be missed by many special nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her extended neighborhood family. Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, at the Congregational Church, Main Street, Princeton, with Dana Kadey, officiating.
