BARING – Norman W. Doten, 84, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at a Calais nursing home. Norman was born April 19, 1922, in Baring, son of the late J. Smith and Winifred (Preston) Doten. He married Kathleen Porter in July 1943. Norman was a self-employed carpenter and drove school bus in Baring for more than 35 years. He enjoyed camping, high school basketball, and was an avid Red Sox fan. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathleen; three sisters, Martina Howland, Inez Frost and Thelma Moreshead; and four brothers, Otis, Albion, Clyde, and Bernard Doten. Surviving are his three children, Ronald Doten and wife, Debbie, of Baring, Lynda Foster of Baileyville, and Michael Doten of Baring; two sisters, Winifred Elsmore of Meddybemps, and Evelyn Johnson of Baring; four grandchildren, Lynn James and husband, Tim, of Calais, Karen Doten of Calais, Jonathan Foster and wife, Charlene, of Atco, N.J., and Marikay McMullen and husband, Shaun, of Lumberton, N.J.; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Vanessa, Caitlin, and Paige; two dear friends, Michael Foster and Kennetha Doten; his canine companion, little guy; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Monday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
