FORT KENT – Normand Dumond, 77, loving husband of Shirley (Walker) Dumond, began living his fifth day Feb. 3, 2007, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born March 4, 1929, in Fort Kent, where he remained a lifelong resident, son of Rene F. Dumond and Elise Blanchard. Normand loved to joke, tease and give lots of hugs to his five children and 11 grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud of. He loved working with his hands and was a very experienced builder and “Jack of all trades.” He also was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1934 and the Cursillo Movement. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley (Walker) Dumond; four daughters, Shirlene and her husband, Thomas Hill, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Kathy and her husband, Barry MacLeod, of Brewer, Terry and her husband, Dave Lebel, of Bucksport, Debbie and her husband, Leo Lang, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one son, Roger Dumond of Westbook; 11 grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, James Hunt, Ashley and Teddy Hill, Tara and Ian MacLeod, Tyla Dumond, Jesse and Caity Lebel, Nichole, Samantha and Alex Lang; three brothers, Camille, Leonide and Edward; six sisters, Clara Gervais, Dora Berube, Nora West, Lena Belanger, Gert Szrejna and Tina Long; along with many nieces and nephews. He was welcomed on his fifth day by one daughter, Doreen; four brothers, and both parents. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and noon until time of service Wednesday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Westgate Manor Activities Fund, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401, where he made not just friends but built an extended family.
