PITTSFIELD – Normand Joseph Bouffard Sr., 72, passed away Aug. 15, 2008, with his family by his side at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 14, 1936, in Benton, the son of Joseph and Mary (Plante) Bouffard. He attended Lawrence High School and served three years as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Infantry Division. He married Lorraine E. McLaggan of Detroit, April 4, 1959. He was a self-employed businessman, who together with his wife, owned and operated The Furniture Exchange, Bouffard’s Wallpaper and Flooring, and for the past 34 years, Security Fence Co., all located in Pittsfield. He was a charter member of the VFW in Fairfield; past commander of the American Legion of Pittsfield and was a member for more than 45 years; past president of St. Agnes Parish Council; past grand knight, past faithful navigator and 4th degree member of Bernard Poulin Assembly of Pittsfield Knights of Columbus for more than 45 years and also an honorary life member. He was a member of Pittsfield Kiwanis Club for more than 40 years, where he was a past president and past lieutenant governor. He received the George F. Hixson Award and is a lifetime member. He, along with his wife, ran the Kiwanis raffle booth every summer during the Kiwanis Karnival. Norm helped form Pittsfield Driftbusters Snowmobile Club in 1970. He was trail master for 20 years and was a past member of St. Albans Sno-Devils Snowmobile Club for nearly 30 years. He received the Maine Snowmobiler of the Year Award for the 1996-1997 season from the Maine Snowmobile Association. He enjoyed riding his six-wheeler, snowmobiling on his Yamaha, playing cards, watching John Wayne movies and Walker, Texas Ranger, playing jokes on his family and spending time with his family and friends. His favorite activity was playing Santa in the Pittsfield area for many years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine; three daughters, Annette Bouffard and her partner, Michael Madden, of Pittsfield, Mary Houston and her husband, Shawn, of Pittsfield and Katherine Kitchin and her husband, Stanley, of Detroit; his son, Normand “Bub” Bouffard Jr. of Pittsfield; his brothers, Paul Bouffard of Las Vegas, Joseph Bouffard and his wife, Edwina, of Zephyrhills, Fla., Ernest Bouffard and his wife, Noella, of Augusta and Gerard Bouffard of Broadbrook, Conn.; four grandchildren, Whitney Houston, Ashley and Trevor Kitchin and Bryson Bouffard; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Lorette, Annette and Paulette; two brothers, Paul and Robert; and his special mother-in-law, Erma E. McLaggan. Receiving of friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A memorial Mass celebrating Norm’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Detroit Avenue, Pittsfield.
